Rocky Balboa

The greatest underdog story of all time is back for one final round of the Academy Award-winning Rocky , former heavyweight champion Rocky Balboa steps out of retirement and back into the ring, pitting himself against a new rival in a dramatically different era. After a virtual boxing match declares Rocky Balboa the victor over current champion Mason "The Line" Dixon, the legendary fighter's passion and spirit are reignited. But when his desire to fight in small, regional competitions is trumped by promoters calling for a rematch of the cyber-fight, Balboa must weigh the mental and physical risks of a high profile exhibition match against his need to be in the ring.

"A fantastic film if you want inspiration. You need to look out for the passionate speach Rocky gives his son about life. I have this printed on my office wall at home. It hit me hard! I wont try to print it here, you just NEED to watch out for it."

Accepted

High school senior Bartleby "B" Gaines (Justin Long) is on his way to scoring eight out of eight rejection letters from colleges--which isn't going to go over big with Mom and Dad. At least he's not alone in the exclusion. Several of his crew of outcast friends are in the same, college-less boat. So...how does a guy facing a bleak career please his parents and get noticed by dream girl Monica (Blake Lively)?

Simple. Open his own university. B and his band of misfit freshmen take "liberal" arts literally when they fool their parents and peers and create the esteemed South Harmon Institute of Technology. They clean up an abandoned psychiatric facility, employ a buddy's brilliant--but subversive--uncle (Lewis Black) as the dean and create a fake web site as their campus calling card. Bam! South Harmon, the alternative school of higher learning, is born.

Just as they are settling in, B and company realize they've done their jobs too well. Dozens of other college rejects show up for classes at this less-than-lofty institute. Under the scornful eyes of privileged students from the neighboring college, B and his friends forge ahead with maintaining a fake, functioning university. Their efforts to explore alternative education result in a battle between the South Harmon co-eds and the "sister" school snobs. With his future in the balance, it's going to take more than just sleight of hand to keep B out of jail as he strives to get the girl, impress his parents and become...accepted.

Fantastic teen comedy that inspires what is actually possible (even if its only a movie) when you have a big WHY and go all out. A true feel good movie.

Scent of a Woman

Chris O'Donnell stars as Charlie Simms, a young and innocent scholarship student at an exclusive prep school in New Hampshire who agrees to look after Lt. Col. Frank Slade (Al Pacino), a blind retired army officer, to earn extra money over the Thanksgiving holiday. Frank is a cantankerous and cynical bully who completely suprises Charlie with his plans for their weekend. He has bought them tickets to New York, booked a suite at the Waldorf, rented a limousine, and has big plans for a wild weekend in the Big Apple. Before Charlie realizes what he has gotten into, he is accompanying the colonel around Manhattan as they begin their wild and eye-opening adventures that include a fast-paced test drive in a Ferrari and a tango with a beautiful woman (Gabrielle Anwar). Frank's passion is women; he waxes lyrically on their bodies, scent, and sensuality, and gradually Charlie becomes aware of the sentimental romantic buried deep within the lonely man's heart. Charlie and Frank's growing relationship is the core of the film; Frank teaches Charlie how to see, and Charlie teaches Frank how to feel in this heart-wrenching and heartwarming comedy. Al Pacino is simply stunning as Frank Slade, relying on his vocal power and strong physicality to carry across a complex range of emotions. He is both intolerable and completely lovable in this Oscar-winning role of a lifetime.

Watch out for the prep school court room speach he makes in the defence of charlie. The word is INTEGRITY. Fantastic!

Jerry Maguire

Jerry Maguire is a man who knows the score. As a top agent at Sports Management International, Jerry is unquestionably a master of his universe. Trouble is -- Jerry's mind, mouth and soul are usually on automatic pilot. He's good at friendship, but (as his numerous ex-girlfriends testify) bad at intimacy. Still, there's absolutely nothing wrong with Jerry that a sudden dose of failure can't cure. A week after spontaneously writing a stirring, visionary mission statement for SMI entitled 'The Things We Think And Do Not Say: The Future of Our Business,' he's unceremoniously fired. Stripped of his job and a good measure of his identity, the tenacious but hanging-by-a-thread Jerry is forced to start from scratch. He's joined on his journey to redemption by two unlikely allies: Rod Tidwell, a second-tier wide receiver for the Arizona Cardinals; and Dorothy Boyd, a wistful 26-year-old single mother who departs her accountancy position with SMI for a very uncertain future with her new boss.

He bases his life on loyalty and fairness and total out and out dedication to his dream! Amazing and inspiring film, especially for those go getters.

(This film i always think of my amazing friend Jessie Tsang , an amazing creator. RS)

Shawshank Redemption

In 1946, a banker named Andy Dufresne is convicted of a murder he proclaims he didn`t commit.Sentenced to a life at the Shawshank State Prison , where he aquaints himself with, Ellis Redding, where he believes Andy is the guy who will break up under pressure. The harsh reality of prison life are quickly introduced to Andy from a corrupt warden and sadistic guards and Captain. As usual in a secure prison the inmates who are animals, willing to use rape or beatings as a state of dominace over the weaker in mates. But Andy does not crack: he has the hope, strength and faith only the truly innocent can hold, which allow him to survivel prison life. He uses his banking skills to win favor with the warden and the guards, doing the books for Norton's illegal business schemes and keeping an eye on the investments of most of the prison staff. In exchange, he is allowed to invest in the prison library and bring some dignity and respect back to many of the inmates, including Red. This movie is a great movie in all and shows through out all adversity that its worth hanging on to the dream even when it seems further than your longest reach.

Erin Brockovich

A real woman. A real story. A real triumph. Julia Roberts stars as Erin Brockovich, a feisty young mother who fought for justice any way she knew how. Desperate for a job to support herself and her three children, she convinces attorney Ed Masry (Albert Finney) to hire her, and promptly stumbles upon a monumental law case against a giant corporation. Now, Erin's determined to take on this powerful adversary even though no law firm has dared to do it before. And while Ed doesn't want anything to do with the case, Erin won't take "no" for an answer. So the two begin an incredible and sometimes hilarious fight that will bring a small town to its feet and a huge company to its knees.

If you believe in yourself enough and you lead by your actions, eventually everyone will have to believe in you too.

Robots

Ive picked this one for those of you who have children as its a family film with a message worth instilling in your childrens lives. Robots is a thoroughly fun, enjoyable film which had humor for children and adults without being too ridiculous or adult undertones of sex etc. Also the amazing pride that the parents had in their son which we should all have in our children and totally impressed with the message that beauty and perfection (especially manufactured beauty and perfection) aren't as important as character, family, and friendship. A lesson i learnt from this also. A re affirmation. A great fun film in all that isn`t just senseless humour and your children will want to watch it over and over again and what lessons to be learnt for them as they grow up my friends.

Bagger Vance

This is a great film which i decided to watch from a reference i head from Dr Wayne Dyer. A great man. Based on the book, Will Smith who plays Bagger vance A kind of Guardian angel arrives mysteriously to assist Junah in his golf game. Tho this is a metaphor for life. Terrible experiences during the war broke Junuh's spirit, and for ten years, he's been somewhere between a recluse and a drunken gambler. He's abandoned his fiancée Adele and his lively social life. Adele who inherits her fathers estate , which is on the verge of bankrupt decides to hold the biggest golf tournament between teh champions to complete her fathers dream.

Junah who has lost his swing so refuses to participate decides to have a practise anyway, at which point Bagger vance (will smith) appears through the darkness to help lunah. Baggers philosophies totally reflect life as a hole if you are into the success and spiritual philosophies. He explains "I allus felt a man's grip on his club just like a man's grip on the world,Yeah, rhythm of the game just like the rhythm of life, Somewhere in the harmony of all that was, all that is, all that will be...Inside each and everyone one of us is a one true authentic swing, something we were born with, something that's ours and ours alone." My lady really never fancied watching a `golf` film but she loved it. Its really not about the golf. Its Life!
